There are two main reasons why some women worry about the fact that soy protein is not safe during pregnancy. Soy contains chemicals called phytoestrogens, which are similar in form to the human hormone estrogen. Several years ago, some researchers suggested that consuming soy may be similar to drinking large amounts of supplemental estrogen effects and may put pregnant women and their developing babies at risk of health problems.However, there has been no study to confirm these suspicions, and soybeans appears to be safe for women and babies born.
Another concern is the fact that soy is a food allergy high risk, according to the National Soybean Research Laboratory University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, notes that soy is one of eight foods most likely to cause allergic reaction. Obstetricians recommend while pregnant women avoid eating foods closely linked to allergies in childhood. However, this does not seem to have diminished allergies in the population. Therefore, most doctors no longer recommend that soy or other to avoid foods high allergy risk, say doctors Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz in his book “You: Having A Baby”.
A 2002 study published by Dr. Thomas Badger and colleagues in the Journal of Nutrition ‘highlighted the safety of soy in a sample of infants fed a formula of it. The reason for the review was that the baby formula consumed in the U.S. population with the highest rate of consumption of this cereal. The researchers felt that if soybeans posed a risk to any population, the negative health effects appear in infants fed the same. The result of the study showed negative effects on the health risk for infants, suggesting that soy is probably safe in the general population.
Benefits of Soy
Soy is considered safe not only during pregnancy but also a healthier diet of the mother component, since it is high in protein according to the National Soybean Research Laboratory, just as it is a complete protein. This means it contains all the essential amino acids needed to build new cellular proteins. Soy is also low in saturated fat and rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Finally, many soy products, including soy milk, contain vitamins and calcium.
